Competitor Radar

A monthly competitor briefing from what they publish publicly

SkillLight SetupClaudeChatGPTClaude Code

The problem

You check competitors twice a year: once in a panic after losing a deal, once while updating the website. Both times you skim their site, feel vaguely worried, and retain nothing. There is no record of what their pricing said last quarter, so when it changes you don't notice, and when a prospect quotes a competitor's new offer at you, it is the first you've heard of it.

The tool

Once installed, this skill turns your AI assistant into a competitor analyst with a memory. Each month you paste in what your competitors publish: pricing pages, service pages, blog posts, LinkedIn updates. The skill compares it against what it saw last time and returns a briefing with three parts: a change log of what actually moved, an updated positioning map, and a short "what to do about it" list with owners and deadlines.

Before: competitor awareness is a feeling, refreshed by panic. After: a dated record ("their pricing page dropped the setup fee between June and July"), a positioning picture you can sanity-check your own messaging against, and at most three concrete responses per month. It is strict about evidence. The skill sees only what you paste, it cannot browse, and it will write "UNKNOWN" rather than speculate about a competitor move it has no material for. That discipline is the point: a briefing you can trust beats a longer one you can't.

What's inside

  • A baseline snapshot of each competitor built from your first paste
  • Monthly change logs: only actual differences, each dated to your pastes
  • A positioning map in plain text, placing you and them on the axes that matter
  • Win/loss context notes when you report a deal won or lost against a named rival
  • "What to do about it": at most three actions per month, with owners and deadlines
  • A quarterly rollup that separates trends from one-off moves

How to use it

  1. 1Click "Install skill" on this page and copy the install prompt.
  2. 2Paste it into your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor. Anything that can fetch a URL or accept pasted text).
  3. 3Answer the setup questions about your business and the 2 to 5 competitors worth tracking.
  4. 4Do a first paste for each competitor: pricing page, main service pages, and recent posts. This becomes the baseline.
  5. 5Set a monthly reminder. Fifteen minutes of copy-paste, then read the briefing.
  6. 6Put the "what to do about it" actions straight into your task list. The briefing is an input; the actions are the output.

Example

Say you run a managed IT firm in Calgary tracking three local rivals. In month two you paste refreshed pages. Briefing (condensed): "Change log: Competitor A's pricing page now leads with a per-user price ($45/user) instead of a flat tier; their old setup fee is gone (as pasted July 3 vs June 5). Competitor B published two posts targeting law firms, a vertical you also serve. Competitor C: no material pasted this month, status UNKNOWN. Positioning: A is moving down-market on price; your 'senior techs only' angle is now the clearest differentiator on the map. Do about it: 1) Add a per-user comparison row to your pricing FAQ, owner: you, by July 18. 2) Ask your two law-firm clients for a referral or testimonial before B's content gains ground, owner: you, by July 25."

Pro tip

Paste your own pricing and service pages too, and refresh them when they change. The positioning map is twice as useful when your side of it is current, and the skill can flag when a competitor's change makes your published copy sound dated.
