Google Business Profile Optimizer

A profile that competes for the map pack in your neighbourhood

Master PromptNo-CodeClaudeChatGPT

The problem

For a local business, the map pack gets the call before your website ever loads. Yet most profiles run on defaults: a one-line description, no services listed, a category picked at signup and forgotten, photos from opening day. Filling out a profile properly is unglamorous work with a real payoff, and this walks through it field by field against the competitors already winning your neighbourhood.

The tool

You are a local SEO specialist who has optimized Google Business
Profiles for small businesses across Canada. You are blunt about what
profile edits can and cannot do: proximity, review count, and years of
history matter as much as anything the owner types, so you focus on the
fields owners control and ignore tricks that risk suspension.

MY BUSINESS: [NAME, WHAT YOU DO, CITY AND NEIGHBOURHOOD, SERVICE AREA]
MY CURRENT PROFILE: [PASTE YOUR CURRENT DESCRIPTION, PRIMARY AND
SECONDARY CATEGORIES, SERVICES LISTED, REVIEW COUNT AND AVERAGE
RATING, PHOTO COUNT, AND HOW OFTEN YOU POST]
MAP PACK COMPETITORS: [PASTE THE SAME DETAILS FOR THE TOP 3 PROFILES
THAT APPEAR WHEN YOU SEARCH YOUR MAIN SERVICE PLUS YOUR CITY]
WHAT CUSTOMERS SEARCH: [THE 3-5 PHRASES PEOPLE USE TO FIND A BUSINESS
LIKE YOURS]

STEP 1: GAP AUDIT: Compare my profile to the 3 competitors field by
field: categories, services, description, reviews, photos, posts, Q&A.
Rank the gaps by likely impact and effort. Say plainly which gaps are
cosmetic and which ones plausibly cost me map pack positions.

STEP 2: CATEGORY AND SERVICES FIX: Recommend a primary category and up
to 9 secondary categories from Google's actual category list, matched
to what I sell most. Then write my services list: every distinct
service as its own entry with a 1-2 sentence description that uses the
phrases customers search, without stuffing.

STEP 3: DESCRIPTION AND CONTENT REWRITE: Write a profile description
under 750 characters that leads with what I do and where, works in 2-3
search phrases naturally, and ends with a reason to choose us that
competitors can't copy. Then give me 4 Google post drafts (offer,
update, service spotlight, seasonal) and 5 Q&A pairs to seed, built
from questions customers genuinely ask.

STEP 4: REVIEW ENGINE: Build a simple review-request routine: the
moment of highest satisfaction for my type of business, the exact ask
script for in person and for text or email, and reply templates for
5-star, 3-star, and 1-star reviews that stay professional and mention
the service naturally.

RULES: Nothing that violates Google's guidelines: no keywords stuffed
into the business name, no incentives for reviews, no fake reviews, no
service areas I don't serve. Be honest that profile edits alone won't
outrank a competitor with 300 more reviews or a location closer to the
searcher; name which gaps only time and reviews can close. Every
recommendation must be a specific edit I can make today, not "improve
your presence."

How to use it

  1. 1Open your profile in the Google Business Profile manager and copy out your description, categories, services, review count, and photo count.
  2. 2Search your main service plus your city in an incognito window, open the three map pack profiles, and copy the same details for each.
  3. 3Run the prompt and act on the gap audit top-down; the highest-impact items usually take under an hour combined.
  4. 4Paste the new description and services list straight into the profile manager, then schedule the four post drafts over the next month.
  5. 5Put the review-request script where the ask happens: taped to the counter, saved as a text template, or added to your invoice email.
  6. 6Recheck your map pack position monthly from an incognito search, and expect movement over weeks, not days.

Example

Input: a two-truck plumbing company in east Winnipeg with 41 reviews at 4.6 stars, competing against three profiles that each have over 200 reviews.

Sample output excerpt:

GAP AUDIT: Highest impact: you list 4 services, all three competitors list 12 to 18, and "drain cleaning" (your most-searched phrase) isn't one of yours. Medium: your description is 90 characters and names no neighbourhoods. Honest note: the review gap (41 vs. 200+) is your biggest ranking drag and no edit closes it this month; the review engine below is the long game.

SERVICES FIX, entry 3: Drain cleaning: "Clogged drain cleaning for kitchens, bathrooms, and main lines across east Winnipeg. Same-day service on most calls."

REVIEW ENGINE: Ask at the door, after the fix is demonstrated and before the invoice: "If you're happy with how this went, a Google review helps a two-truck shop like ours more than any ad. I can text you the link right now."

Pro tip

The Q&A section is the most neglected field on most profiles, and Google lets owners post and answer their own questions. Seed it with the five questions people phone in about (pricing, service area, hours, emergency availability, payment methods) so the answer shows up before the call, written your way.
